Monthly Roundup (Nov 19)
HA Solana validation with StrongGate, Cosmos IBC, Kava launch, Terra economics and traction, and more!
Fellow Proof-of-Stake enthusiasts,
The monthly Chorus One newsletter will deliver updates about our work and the networks we support (this time for real). Let’s get straight into it:
We published a first post on StrongGate, our protocol for high availability validation on the Solana network. We will release and open-source this protocol soon, meanwhile check out what Solana CEO Anatoly had to say about StrongGate:
I am super excited about StrongGate, because it solves a fundamental scaling problem as well. We're proud to be pioneering Proof-of-Stake validator infrastructure design with support of the @solana team. We ran into a few blockers with Cosmos data for our staking dashboard Anthem, but will hopefully be able to go live within the next month to finally bring proper staking reward data to the Cosmos ecosystem.
We published an overview page listing ways and tutorials on how to delegate on networks we support.
Network Data
IBC: Cosmos’ inter-blockchain communication protocol (IBC) is maturing quickly in expectation of the incentivized competition “Game of Zones”. We are bullish on IBC and are actively exploring corridor designs, as well as building IBC connections with other ecosystems to contribute to the development of this crucial infrastructure of the interchain.
DeFi Hackathon: A hackathon with 600 participants took place during SFBW focused on decentralized finance and the Cosmos/Tendermint ecosystem. Check out the recap here.
Cosmoshub-3: The proposal to upgrade to Cosmos Hub 3 (slated for Dec 11) is live and will likely pass. This upgrade that previously failed will finally bring spending from the community pool (containing ~235k ATOM at the time of writing), 25 new validators, and lots of Cosmos SDK and Tendermint updates.
Launch: The Kava blockchain, which will bring stablecoin borrowing with Maker-style CDPs to the Cosmos ecosystem, went live Nov 14. A proposal to enable transfers is about to pass and will be activated Dec 3. CDP functionality is slated for Q1 2020. You can stake KAVA tokens with Chorus One, learn more here!
2020: Loom continues to tirelessly build. This recent roadmap post lays out how the team wants to narrow their focus on scaling and expanding usage of the Loom Basechain.
Regen’s Vision: We published a long post about why markets for ecological regeneration are needed to fight climate change and how Regen provides the tools to do this.
Road to Mainnet: Regen concluded their first incentivized testnet competition that tested the automated Cosmos SDK upgrade process the Regen team designed. Chorus One came in third in this competition.
Economics & Traction: Largely under the radar in the wider crypto space, Terra is among the top blockchains by account and transaction growth (there are now almost 500k accounts on Terra!). Check out this presentation that covers Terra stablecoin economics and an analysis of transaction data from the eCommerce payments app CHAI that is using the Terra blockchain.
Columbus-3: An upgrade for Terra is coming soon. This upgrade will increase LUNA staking rewards through increased transaction fees (from 0.11% to 0.5% per tx), a different oracle (reward) system, updated slashing conditions, as well as introduce on-chain governance. Read more here.
